Process Safety and Occupational Safety involve different and contrasting risks. The two disciplines are often managed by different departments and are relatively non-concurrent, however, there is an area where they are more aligned – SIF (Serious Injury & Fatality) prevention. Catastrophic events with the potential for such serious injury or fatality must be avoided and strategies in occupational and process safety become much more synchronous. Organisational safety and reliability, of course, naturally overlays both– having the right culture and the right behaviours is clearly a key component for successful outcomes in safety.
